The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: one war, two peoples caught between a rock and a hard place and a same pain. This conflict is often seen from an Armenian point of view, yet the decades of suffering it has generated have also deeply scarred Azeri history.

During the first war, the bitter defeat and occupation of Azerbaijan's territory was accompanied by massacres of Azeri civilians and the deportation of 800,000 of them. The Azeri’s humiliation has been used by the ultra-nationalist regime in Baku to fan the flames of anger against Armenia for 30 years. This memory fueled the motivation for the conflict that just ended.

Under the control of the Azerbaijani authorities, Yaël Goujon met with families who were victims of this war. He also accompanied the photo-reporter Reza Deghati near the frontlines.
