Facing the small port of Tréguier, in the French Côtes-d’Armor, there is a garden with a mysterious atmosphere. The garden of Kerdalo looks like a British garden around a family manor.

Kerdalo was built in 1965 by Peter Wolkonski in a hazy abandoned field. The Russian aristocrat was a painter in exile here. It took him thirty years to create a garden that links his love of art and his passion for botany. The gardens of Kerdalo were left dormant for the last few years of life of their creator; they have now been restored to their former splendor. Peter Wolkonski’s daughter Isabelle is now furthering her father’s legacy, with the help of landscape architect Timothy Waughan – her husband.
