At the end of October, nine armed men wearing explosive belts entered the cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Baghdad during a mass. It resulted in carnage. Since then, an increasing number of Christians have left Baghdad.

According to one estimate by the Iraqi NGO Hammurabi, twenty to thirty families a day are going into exile.
Before the first Gulf War, there were about two million of them. The exodus, which started during the years of embargo and continued after the fall of Saddam Hussein, looks set to continue. Today, there are only 500,000 Iraqi Christians. Are they destined to disappear from Iraq, when they originated from Mesopotamia, where the tomb of Abraham is located?
