Navajo territory is located among the sacred canyons of Arizona, and is home to the United State’s largest Native American tribe – the Diné. Among them, “medicine-men” carry out highly sophisticated practices, in which health and beauty are inseparable.
In Navajo language, they are called the “hatali”, meaning the “singers”. In the company of a respected 70-year-old medicine-man, Albert Laughter, Bernard discovers this art of healing, in which the usual medical equipment is replaced by coloured powder, prayer sticks and corn pollen.
