After a stay in Egypt, the painter Jacques Majorelle discovers Morocco, Marrakech first, then the Atlas. He discovers especially the color, and a Berber architecture which will give life to an original work.
He paints his villa in bright colors, dominated by blue to which he gives his name. That is an intense blue, slightly purplish, which inspires rest and relaxation.
