Crafted in modest workshops, Neon signs have long been a symbol of Hong Kong's identity. They symbolize the entwining of Asian and Western cultures. While fluorescent tubes are gradually being replaced by LEDs, some inhabitants of the megalopolis still hold on to this tradition...

This sprawling city in the South China Sea has been densely populated for generations. It is home to a myriad of small businesses, each with its own illuminated sign. Year after year, these signs’ size and illumination power have grown because of a stiff competition. This is how the tide of neon tubes that made Hong Kong so iconic was unleashed.
The famous calligrapher Fung Siu Wah, the neon designer Wu Chi-kai, and the young journalist Cardin Chan encourage the last craftsmen to keep pursuing their passion by providing them with contacts and contracts.
