The island of Stromboli in southern Italy is known worldwide for its fiery volcano. 300 inhabitants have chosen to live there despite the danger. They have always practised sustainable fishing, away from the consumer society. Gaetano would like to retire and hopes that his son will settle permanently in Stromboli.
At 22, Andrea Cusolito has returned to live on his native island after more than ten years on the mainland. He would like his father, who is almost 70, to teach him everything he knows about sustainable fishing. Gaetano, an enthusiast of the trade, hopes that Andrea will settle permanently in Stromboli. The fishermen’s work is hard, their pay is modest and they are dependent on the weather. Not to mention the volcano’s threatening rumbles every two minutes.
