Since 15 September 2014, the peacekeepers have taken over from the African Union, which has been ensuring the pacification of Central African Republic, alongside French Sangaris forces, since December 2013.

The UN promises the deployment of 12,000 men, eventually, as well as the reinstatement of the Central African administration in all provinces.
This is no small challenge. Currently, only 4 of the country’s 16 prefectures are functioning, for better or worse.
Calm has returned to Bangui. Central African police are once again in the field, thanks to training carried out by French instructors, and to the joint patrols with EUFOR troops - 800 men of ten different nationalities. But armed gangs continue to strike by night, pillaging houses and fleecing locals. 400 km to the West of Bangui, Bouar is setting an example. But there too, criminal groups continue their acts of violence. The deployment of the peacekeepers will enable the French forces to redeploy to the east of the country, which is still in the hands of Seleka. There is hope once again, even if the organisation of elections for 2015 seems somewhat premature.
