The peaceful little city of Dordrecht is famous for its historical center. It is now at the heart of a resounding health scandal because of Teflon – the anti-adhesive material that covers our kitchen utensils. One of the molecules that compose it (C8) is highly cancerous.

The main bone of contention is with the American company group DuPont de Nemours – one of the city’s biggest job purveyors. DuPont has been discharging C8 around its factory for 50 years. Thousands of worried locals have gone to the hospital in order to have their blood tested for contamination and realized it was indeed the case. Ex-employees and local residents have blamed the company for the cancers from which they are suffering.
DuPont has known about the dangers of using C8 for 40 years. Dozens of confidential documents prove it. In the United States, the multinational paid victims 670 millions of dollars in a similar case. In Dordrecht, the outraged citizens start organizing to seek redress from the American giant.
