The Nasa indigenous people, victims of racism and regularly attacked by paramilitary groups, are fighting for the recognition of their rights by protesting the Colombian government's disastrous management of the epidemic.

The pandemic has further exacerbated the discrimination suffered by this tribe. This population of 185,000 indigenous people, whose very existence has been punished by the government, has taken the situation head on: they established roadblocks around their lands, a strict control of traffic, and disinfection of places of passage. And the strategy has paid off. While Covid-19 wreaked havoc in Colombia – 1.2 million people were infected, 32,000 died – only 976 Natives contracted the coronavirus and three of them died.

In order to raise awareness of their cause, 8,000 indigenous people took the Panamerica towards Cali and then towards Bogotá, the country's capital. Along the way, their ranks swelled: a million people joined them as far as the Plaza de Bolívar, to protest the government and its disastrous handling of the epidemic in a country on the verge of bankruptcy.
