A few days before the presidential election, the topic of climate change has taken a predominant role in the electoral campaign. 2 million hectares ravaged: the equivalent of a country the size of Slovenia or the Île-de-France region. For months, the western United States has been burning.

With the rising temperatures, these fires have had even more dire consequences – unbreathable air, climate refugees to be relocated, a traumatized generation... And they could well become permanent.

A few days before the presidential election, the fires have fueled tensions in the campaign. Republican candidate Donald Trump has consistently denied the role of climate change, while Democratic candidate Joe Biden called the outgoing president a “climate arsonist” and pledged a “Green Deal”, a plan that focuses on renewable energy. 88% of Democrats see climate change as a major threat to the country. The youth in particular has been heavily invested and mobilized in the election of the next president of the United States.
