In the United States, more and more elderly people from the baby-boomer generation - the generation that helped build today's America - find themselves on the streets from their sixties onwards.

America is ageing, and many people are no longer able to make ends meet. This is due to the economic factor: the explosion in the cost of living, the housing crisis and the drastic increase in existing rents, the lack of construction of retirement homes, age-related medical expenses, etc.
Then there's the social factor: the elderly often live alone, lack family support and are less likely to ask for help for fear of disturbing others. A bleak picture that inevitably leads to a catastrophic situation, but above all, one that is unprecedented in the history of the United States of America.
Peter Moya, 62, ran a limousine company. His clients included Carlos Santana, Diana Ross and Halle Berry. Vickie Eichelberger, 68, worked in agriculture for 38 years. On reaching retirement age, they both slipped into a precarious situation, joining the 6,000 or so men and women living on the streets of Phoenix, Arizona.
More than 1,500 homeless men and women occupy the "Phoenix zone", where sixteen NGOs are working to give them back access to public assistance and housing. They are providing 900 men and women with a roof over their heads for the night, but 600 of them are spending the night outside in tents.
