The Brothers Grimm are probably the most famous collectors of stories. And these fairy tales have their roots in the German and French storytelling tradition. The collection first appeared in 1812 and met with a wide audience interested in enchanted. It is not yet fantasy - it lacks personal invention ...

Fantasy is everywhere: in cinema, in literature as well as in videos and role-playing games. But what are the origins of these stories? Who are their pioneers? And what does it say about our society when fantasy series like "Game of Thrones" or "Lord of the Rings" become so successful? Illustrator John Howe is one of the masters of the fantasy genre. The documentary series takes him on a journey back in time to the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm to the novels of Robert E. Howard. In four episodes, John Howe meets famous people who explain to the viewer the more than hundred-year history of fantasy novels.
