IIn 1929, at the age of 20, writer John Fante left his native Colorado and came to California. As the United States went through the Great Depression, John Fante settled in Los Angeles. With only a few dollars in his pockets but a heart full of hope, the young artist created a literary alter ego, whom he placed at the center of dark, unflinching stories. These semi-autobiographical works offer a powerful portrait of life in the poor neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
