Following the events of 7th January 2015 in Paris, we wanted to understand who inspired cartoonists Cabu, Wolinksi, Charb and all the others, in developing their art – the art of caricature.

Hogarth, Gillray, Daumier, Philipon, Valloton and even Jean Moulin all dipped their pens in the black ink of caricature. They are indebted to the aesthetic research of the geniuses of art such as the Italians Leonardo da Vinci and Bernini, the Germans Lucas Cranach, Hans Holbein and Durer, the Dutchman Jerome Bosch and many more.
Baudelaire himself said: “Caricature is an excellent indication of a society’s freedom”. An art form that is often gagged but is never hushed!
