Philippe Charlier flies to Nepal, located between India and Tibet. He sets out to meet the Newars, an ethnic group living in the valley of Katmandu. An unusual people, because although the Nepalese are mainly Hindu, the Newars can also be Buddhists, just like long ago in India, when the two religions lived side by side, before Buddhism disappeared from the area.
This ethnic group that displays tolerance as a result, welcomes Philippe amidst their New Year festivities. They invite him to share a ritual in a Newar family; to discover the 12th century royal cities that bear witness to their great cultural and spiritual wealth; and to meet the living goddess of the Newars, incarnated as a young girl: the Kumari.
