Mummification was widespread in Sicily. The practice appeared in the 16th century when, after splitting from the Franciscans, the Capuchin monks settled on the island.
Philippe Charlier takes us into the catacombs of Palermo, and then on to Savoca, a small village located at the foot of Etna. He is accompanied by anthropologist Luisa Lo Gerfo, whose work on mummies has revealed the history of the local populations.
