In northern Greece, litanies rise from the monasteries perched in the valley of Meteora.
At the end of the Byzantine Empire, in the 15th century, the Orthodox monks in the region built these religious buildings on rocky peaks, several hundred meters above the ground. Over the centuries, these impressive fortresses of faith have passed down the essence of Orthodox monastic traditions.
