The Wilhelmshöhe Park lies at the heart of the Habichtswald forest in Cassel. It was the responsibility of three generations of princes ruling between the 17th and 19th centuries. The park and its water features were built on a vertical drop of 350 meters.
In 1689, Charles I Prince of the Province of Hesse-Cassel starts building an octagon overhung by a pyramid that also overlooks a great cascade tumbling down steps. Half way between baroque and romantic styles, Wilhelmshöhe offers us the spectacle of excess. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, the princes have designed a surprisingly coherent and harmonious landscape...
