It is extremely difficult to describe in great precision the colours of decay. 

We associate colour and danger. In order to make sure food is safe to eat, we repel anything looking even slightly suspicious. However, in taking over living matter, decay shows a large variety of, often unexpected, hues that both attract and repel.
