The Norman-French bocage, a scrappy territory of hedges and hollow paths that extend from the west side of the Lower-Normandy. With the regrouping of lands and urbanization, the Bocage declines, taking away with it a landscape that protected men and secrets.

When we walk on these hollow paths, real greenery tunnels, we understand why, only 60 years ago, customs men had some difficulties to track down the calvados which was illegally produced: the hedges enabled to play hide-and-seek with the authorities. They were also the place where refugees could hide for a long time.
The Bocage is not only constituted by plots separated by hedges. A stony barrier of about 50 kilometers runs along 2 departments: the Calvados and the Orne, offering a different landscape, almost entirely stony.
