The rugged rocks of the Highlands contrast sharply with the gentle fertile hills of the Lowlands.

The city of Stirling was the former capital of the Kingdom of Scotland, and for a long time was coveted by England. The situation was to change in the early 18th century when the Acts of Union were signed between Scotland and England. The clans that had once occupied the Highlands disappeared when the English imposed their way of life. With the Highland Potato Famine in the 19th century, the Highlands became depopulated. Sir Walter Scott portrayed these legendary places through his hero Rob Roy, whose spirit still haunts the area’s magnificent wild landscapes.
