For a long time, Massai shepherds fought against the Chaga people over the fertile foothills of Kilimanjaro. The Massai had to make do with the arid plain.

A single watering hole provided drinking water for their cattle. Karengenye, the chief of the village explains that the water comes from Kilimanjaro. They use it for the cattle, which in turn provide them with food, and many other things. It is their sole resource.
