Jan-Ole Gerster is the Berliner filmmaker behind the movie Oh Boy. He is shooting a portrait of his neighbor – musician Nikko Weidemann. The filmmaker has known Nikko for almost 10 years. He is inspired and moved by his neighbor's determination in the face of commercial temptations, but also sometimes irritated.
At a time when big labels and the measure of commercial success dominate pop culture so heavily, he wants to discuss the meaning of success with Nikko: what is success, what is artistic integrity and what are the possibilities nowadays in pop? He goes to the Berliner Popakademie with him, where Nikko teaches musical composition, then flies over to London to witness the recording of his latest album and films his group's rehearsals in Berlin.
