Jeju Island, 85 kilometres from the Korean peninsular is a popular tourist destination, largely ignored by westerners but much prized by the Japanese and Chinese. 

The women have traditionally dived for fish in deep water, with neither rubber suits nor masks. The ‘Haenyo’ or “sea-women” however are fast disappearing, with the modern generation preferring other less strenuous and more lucrative jobs than their older sisters.
