The city of Uppsala lies north of Stockholm, along the Fyris River. Since the 15th century, the city has been home to Sweden's oldest university. The whole city revolves around its university thanks to enlightened monarch Gustave II. He wished to make knowledge accessible to as many people as possible.

His will is still honored today; thanks in part to the university’s gardens – designed by Sweden's very best botanists – its architecture and its art of living.
