Rising 420 metres above a hilltop plateau in Burgundy, the village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain stands out from the surrounding countryside.

It was named after one of Caesar’s generals, Flavinius… Just 50 kms from Dijon, we are not far from Alésia, the scene of an historic battle between Gauls and Romans… From those days, up until the 12th century, Flavigny welcomed both soldiers and merchants within its ramparts, and its prosperity was much envied. Today, it is renowned around the world for its aniseed-flavoured sweets, based on a recipe from the 16th century, made within the abbey walls, and still a traditional family business.
