The Stonewall riots had an immediate impact. The following year, the first annual Christopher Street Parade was held to celebrate the anniversary of history’s first gay uprising: it was the first Gay Pride Parade.

For gay culture, everything had changed. The winds of freedom had begun to blow and, with Stonewall, gays had become vocal about their need to exist. Gay culture was coming out of the closet.
