A popular icon in the 1980s and 1990s and a genius comedian, Eddie Murphy has never stopped challenging America on its identity issues. Coming back after a 25-year hiatus, the first great Black hero of the cinema appears today as a precursor who revolutionized the image of African-Americans and opened many doors for his community.

A random stand-up artist still unknown in 1980, a genius cartoonist, the highest paid comedian on American TV, a sex symbol, Eddie Murphy was above all the ultra-desirable and hilarious media icon of American multiculturalism in the 1980s and 1990s.
After a 25-year hiatus, he is finally being celebrated everywhere and by everyone - from young French comedians like Jean-Pascal Zadi to today's American laughter stars (Chris Tucker, Chris Rock Dave Chapelle, etc.) - for his positive influence on the evolution of mentalities and his contribution to the recognition of a certain "identity" humor. It was not until the questions of the place of Blacks in our history, our culture and our society imposed themselves on us that we questioned - at last - the importance of the first great Black American hero in cinema.
Today, Eddie Murphy is back in the spotlight, with the release of two new films on Netflix: You People and the fourth part of Beverly Hills Cop.
