How did a failed coup d’état carried out by a handful of generals in July 1936 turn into one of the most brutal civil wars in history? Largely because of General Franco’s rallying who joined the insurgents with Hitler’s support.
For its part, the Republic realized that it was being abandoned by the Western democracies and could only count on the International Brigades - and on the limited, yet very interventionist, support of the USSR.

Spring 1939. After 1,000 days of fighting, 400 000 deaths, the guns finally fell silent. But that didn’t mean peace was back in the country. Franco continued his crusade against the Republicans who had dared to oppose his coup. By 1940, over 240 000 prisoners were crammed in concentration camps and between 150 000 and 200 000 people were missing. From then on, state Catholicism governed every aspect of Spanish life. Women were reduced to the roles of wives and mothers, and the babies of Republican women were taken from them. The resistance fighters who had continued the armed struggle against Franco never managed to overthrow him. Franco outlived his allies, Hitler and Mussolini.

A dive into the world’s biggest cocaine-producing country, this investigation reveals the underground networks ruling a country on edge and the dynamics behind a chaos fueled by growing global demand.
Through a thrilling investigation that takes us into the impenetrable world of drug trafficking in Colombia, we follow the main sources of world cocaine production, which have poisoned the country for more than 50 years. Thanks to exclusive sources (go-fast crew members, journalists, politicians, incarcerated drug lords…), the investigation reveals the inner workings of a business that is more thriving than ever. A sprawling system that is once again leading Colombia towards instability while the United States are strengthening their presence and influence in the region.

Everyone knows the name Chernobyl. For forty years, the word has evoked our worst nightmares of nuclear power made real: The explosion of a reactor, a radioactive cloud crossing Europe and the spectre of nuclear apocalypse. But Chernobyl is not a distant memory for Ukraine where the reactor is encased by a concrete sarcophagus and is threatened by Russian drone attacks.

He is the complete opposite of African American actors who have become icons of American identity—successful stand-up comedians or action heroes. From the very beginning, Samuel L. Jackson has offered something different. As the embodiment of Black America—in its violence and on its fringes—he carries the essence of the ghetto, the streets, and the struggle.
Jackson first struggled with addiction before finding his true calling. A survivor of the violent fight against segregation and his own demons, this Tennessee native owes his redemption to cinema and his work ethics. Over the course of a half-century-long career, Samuel L. Jackson has carved out a unique professional path, straddling the line between radicalism and pop culture. From Spike Lee’s socially engaged films to the blockbuster sagas of Star Wars and Marvel, he embodies a rare balance in Hollywood: that of an actor who embraces all genres without ever forgetting where he comes from.
